Carol Raybin

Carol Raybin, a classically trained realist painter, has an intimate knowledge of the sea and rocky shore of Monhegan Island, where she spends several months each year, rendering the landscape in sensitive, atmospheric oils and watercolors.

Raybin received a B.F.A. from The Cooper Union and an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute, and her paintings have appeared in many publications and exhibitions.

"My work is painted outdoors on site. This creates a situation which limits the size of the paintings as everything has to be carried to the site.  Also, the light is constant for no more than three hours. If several sessions are needed to finish a painting, I revisit the site during the same weather conditions on different days.  The controls an artist has in studio painting are not possible; therefore, the end result can be unpredictable.  Painting the landscape of Maine with its changing light and colors provides ever intriguing artistic problems and possibilities." Carol Raybin
